Case Study (2) 'Chimney Failure'

Property Description

Brick built house located down a Whitby Yard (alleyway)

Problem

The existing gas fire was removed due to the chimney failing when the annual service was carried out. When the Chimney was tested smoke came out of two
of the chimney pots meaning the mid-feathers that separate the flues had failed, as you can see from the photo the internal brickwork was in very
poor condition

Solution

The home owner wanted to reinstate the open fire but still have the option of fitting a gas fire in the future.  We recommended Thermocrete so that he
would have this option and that the chimney would be fully restored giving the home owner a permanent solution.

Methodology

As you can see from the photos access to the property was very awkward, all our equipment had to be taken down a very tight alleyway. The New
Thermocrete lining was installed in one day, we removed the chimney pot, cleaned the chimney using our power sweeping equipment ( this ensures all
the loose soot and debri is removed from the flue prior to lining), fill the chimney using class 1 Thermocrete, re-fit the chimney pot with new cowl and
form a smooth flue gather
